views from VA studios across the country and beyond

After my first residency at VCFA, I cleaned, painted, and outfitted a small section of my basement in my 1907 home for a studio space. Faith Wilding emphasized having “a room of one’s own” (Virginia Woolf) and that really stuck with me. My small studio is a place to winter over my plants, to draw and journal, to write and research, and to work with clay. It has become one of my favorite spaces in my home, and the possibilities of what can be done in there have far exceeded my expectations.
